Journey
Journey shows where sessions go: the first five pages of every session in the selected period, the most visited pages at each step and the flows between consecutive steps.
Read the chart
The chart is a Sankey diagram, the standard form for path analysis. Each column is a step. A bar is a page, sized by the sessions that saw it at that step; the eight most visited pages are named and the remaining pages are folded into Other. Ribbons connect a page in one step to the page visited next; their width is proportional to the sessions that took that path. Sessions that ended after a step flow into the grey Left bar of the next column, so drop-off is as visible as the paths; after the fifth step a grey Continued bar holds the sessions that went on to more pages. Hover a bar to light up every ribbon through it, or a ribbon alone, and read its exact session count and share. On narrow screens the chart scrolls sideways.
Repeated pages are collapsed: a session that reloads /pricing three times counts /pricing once at that step. Only pageviews build the path; custom events do not appear.
Start from a page or narrow the sessions
Journey follows the same session filters as the Overview. Use Add filter → Entry page to start every journey from one landing page, or any other filter (country, channel, device, campaign…) to compare how different audiences move. Imported history is never part of a journey.
Table
Pages per step lists every named page and the Other row of each step with its session count and share of all sessions in the period. These per-step counts are exact. Ribbons are drawn from the 2,000 most common flows; on very large sites rare flows between two named pages can be missing from the drawing while the step counts stay complete.
Availability
Journey is available to every website member and in the public demo; shared links and the analytics API do not include it. It needs recorded pageviews in the period; the empty state suggests widening the period or removing a filter.
